Aspens, I love them but I hate them!!

Aspen are medium-sized deciduous trees, commonly 20 to 80 feet in height, and 3 to 18 inches diameter. Trees more than 80 feet tall and larger than 24 inches diameter are occasionally found. Their bark is smooth, greenish-white, yellowish-white, yellowish-gray, or gray to almost white in color. The tree has an extensive root system that can grow up to 40 feet away from the parent tree. The Aspen’s roots seek out water sources and in the process can tear up sidewalks and infiltrate sewers and septic systems. We see them all the time popping up in our grass and flower beds. In order to temporarily stop there rapid root try trenching around what ever side of the tree you do not want the shoots going. We have had pretty good long term luck!!
